The Alliance has 100 dedicated seed committees from 18 states of India. We are farmers, seed savers, intellectuals, individuals, experts, scientists, designers. We save, promote, and exchange traditional seeds, without compromising farmers’ rights and seed sovereignty. Our seeds are our collective bio-cultural heritage.
Jacob Nellithanam

Jacob Nellithanam is a veteran seed activist, dedicated to protecting and promoting our rich heritage of indigenous crop varieties since over three decades. Jacob is also the founder of the Richharia Campaign, named after Late Dr R.H. Richharia, who collected many thousands of indigenous rice seed varieties from Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and other parts of India. Jacob has trained many farmers in adopting organic ‘System of Rice Intensification’ (SRI) and organic ‘System of Millet Intensification’ (SMI), using locally suited native seed varieties.

Bharat Mansata

Bharat Mansata is a writer and environmental activist, involved in ecological and forest regeneration since almost three decades. An active founder-member of Vanvadi since its inception, he is also co-founder of Earthcare Books. Bharat has authored several books, including The Vision of Natural Farming (on Bhaskar Save, his guru) and Organic Revolution (on Cuba’s agro-ecological transformation). He is the lead co-author of ‘Anna Swaraj’; and is deeply involved too in the movement for conserving and sharing India’s rich heritage of traditional seeds.
